Monoclonal Antibody Treatment in Senior Care Environment

Two investigational SARS-CoV-2 neutralizing antibody treatments, bamlanivimab and casirivimab plus imdevimab are now available through Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) from the FDA for use in eligible outpatients with mild to moderate disease who are at high risk for disease progression and/or hospitalization.Residents of skilled nursing facilities (SNFs) are ideal for these novel therapies and long-term care (LTC) pharmacies provide intravenous medications (IV) routinely in SNF environments.

ASCP COVID-19: Medication Management

For the duration of the COVID-19 pandemic, ASCP recommends a close review of medications to help reduce the burden on pharmacists, residents, and nursing staff. To further limit entries to a patient room, consultants are encouraged to reduce routine medication monitoring and consolidate medication passes, whenever feasible. These decisions should be made in conjunction with the entire resident care team.
